Norway Cruise: Eidfjord

We woke up early to watch our entrance into Eidfjord. It was foggy and a little cloudy, but it was still unbelievably beautiful.

After we disembarked, we went straight to the tourist office. The line was out the door. They had free wifi so a lot of people were also standing around using their phones. Even though outside there was a poster that said the bus was only running up to the waterfall at a couple of times, we found that was not true when we got to the counter. We were able to get tickets on the 11:15 bus to Voringfossen. We had about forty five minutes to wander around the town. We walked around and took pictures, looked in a couple of stores, and stopped at the grocery store for a drink to bring on the bus. It is a very small town, but so beautiful. The air was so clear. We kept taking deep breaths.

We were almost the last people on the bus so we sat all the way in the back. The drive up to the waterfalls was about 25 minutes. The views on the way were really cool. We also drove through a lot of tunnels. You could see where the road used to go around the mountain and was now closed due to the tunnel access. They were doing all kinds of construction near the waterfalls to give more access to the area. The lower area was mostly closed. We were dropped off in the upper area. There was a bathroom available as well as a hotel with a cafe and a gift shop. We wandered around taking a bunch of pictures of the waterfalls. There were some on each side of the river. We watched a video of it before we left and could tell that there was not a lot of water flowing, but it was still pretty amazing.

We were given 45 minutes at the falls before we had to board the bus again. When we arrived back in town, I stopped at the tourist office in order to buy some postcards and I even purchased some stamps! We went back on the ship to eat lunch. Our all aboard was 3pm and we went out on the deck to watch the scenery as we left.

The most interesting part of our sail away was that we had to go under a bridge in which the boat barely cleared. They actually had to remove a light bulb before going under it or it would have been broken. We were out on the bow on deck 5 when we went under. It looked very close.
