Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

We continued our driving exploration in Vancouver.  We drove out past Whistler to Pemberton.  There were a lot of people out on hiking trails probably because the weather was beautiful.  Our first stop was miles off the main road to Mamquam Falls.  My husband thought it would be a quick easy hike, but it does have some steep areas first down a construction road and then into the woods.  The … Continue reading Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Nature walks outside of Brisbane, Australia

Today we did some rainforest walks.  We started at Noosa Parks. My husband mistakenly thought we could see koalas there, but they moved on years ago.  Instead we walked by the water and then in the forest.  We heard some amazing birdsong. One sounded electronic.  We found out later it was an Eastern whipbird.  Next we stopped at a Ginger Factory.  We wandered around the grounds and bought a few … Continue reading Nature walks outside of Brisbane, Australia

Australian Zoo and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

I have always wanted to visit the Australian Zoo.  I used to watch Steve and Terri Irwin on Crocodile Hunter and I have followed the lives of their children through social media recently.  I was so sad when Steve Irwin passed away.  The only solace I feel was that he did so while he was doing something he loved: being with animals.   After visiting the Australian Zoo, I … Continue reading Australian Zoo and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Canberra and the Highlands, Australia

We arrived in Sydney and rented a car to drive straight to Canberra.  We visited the Australian War Memorial first.  It is a very impressive museum. There are a ton of different artifacts from every war. They honor the soldiers with their portraits and medals and around the reflection pool they have lists of all the names of the soldiers from different wars and spaces for you … Continue reading Canberra and the Highlands, Australia

Venice, Italy

We took the high speed train to Venice.  It didn’t feel like we were on a high speed train and it took two and a half hours to travel from Milan to Venice. There were seven stops along the way.  We had assigned seats and our bags easily fit above us. The tickets were about 49 euros each for coach class.  The seats were fine, but there was … Continue reading Venice, Italy

Bergamo, Italy

We wanted to get out of Milan on Saturday, so we took a train to Bergamo, which only cost around 12 euros round trip each person.  It was less than an hour to get there and when we arrived, we took the 1 bus up to Citta Alta (Upper Town), which is the old called city area.  You can take a funicular, but the line was quite … Continue reading Bergamo, Italy

Lake Como

We decided to take the train to Lake Como on Thursday since it’s only about an hour from Milan.  We took the train around 9:30 into Varenna.  The train was packed. Many people were standing in the aisles.  It takes about ten minutes to walk down to the lake and most people immediately got in line for the ferry.  We took a left turn to walk along the water … Continue reading Lake Como
